เกี่ยวกับ Haskap

Haskap (ハスカップ, Haskap) is a unique, deep blue-purple fruit native to Hokkaido. Known as the "phantom fruit" due to its rarity, it has been cherished since ancient times by the indigenous Ainu people of Japan. The name comes from the Ainu word "hasikap," meaning "many fruits on the branch," reflecting its deep connection to Hokkaido's nature and history.

This hardy fruit grows in cold regions, primarily in southern and central Hokkaido, and is harvested between late June and early July. Haskap is packed with nutrients, including vitamin C, vitamin E, iron, calcium, and anthocyanins, a type of polyphenol. Known for their strong antioxidant properties, anthocyanins help reduce eye strain, maintain vision, promote healthy skin, and more.

Its delightful balance of tartness and sweetness makes it a perfect ingredient for a variety of sweets and confections. You can enjoy haskap as jam, jelly, ice cream, or in western-style desserts. A particularly famous treat is Hokkaido’s specialty confection, "Haskap Jewelry," celebrated nationwide. Additionally, haskap fruit is also used to create fruit liqueurs, which are popular as after-dinner drinks.

When enjoying haskap-inspired sweets, pair them with beverages that complement their refreshing tartness. Green tea, herbal tea, or even a light white wine are excellent choices. Ripening in Hokkaido’s brief summer, each little haskap berry encapsulates the rich nature and culture of the region.
