Shirakami Abalone
Akita Prefecture’s delicacy grown in the pristine waters of Happo Town
Shirakami Abalone에 대해서
Shirakami Abalone (白神あわび, Shirakami awabi) is cultivated in Happo Town, Akita Prefecture, nestled in the magnificent region of the Shirakami Mountains, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. This area, encompassing the Hamori Iwadate Prefectural Natural Park, benefits from crystal-clear streams and abundant clean water flowing into the sea. Within this environment lies an aquaculture facility repurposed from a closed-down school, where the Shirakami Abalone are carefully raised. Grown in the nutrient-rich seawater of the Sea of Japan, these abalones are known for their tender texture and flavor, including their delicious, edible liver.
