About Shimada Vegetable Soup
Shimada Vegetable Soup (具だくさん島田汁, Gudakusan Shimada-jiru) is a hearty local soup created in Shimada City, Shizuoka Prefecture, as part of a food education initiative.
Packed with an abundance of local ingredients, this nutritious and well-balanced dish also supports the concept of “local production for local consumption.” It’s easy to prepare, helping to prevent skipped breakfasts and ensuring a balanced intake of nutrients.
Some variations even include tea leaves as a topping, offering a unique twist. Made with locally grown vegetables and the special “Dashi-sen” broth, this soup lets you enjoy the wholesome taste of the region in every bite.
