Sawamochi
A traditional confectionary that originated in the Ise-Shima region
About Sawamochi
Sawamochi is a specialty confectionary from the Ise-Shima region of Mie Prefecture. It's a simple mochi made by cutting a thin layer of noshimochi into a square (almost square), putting koshian on it, and wrapping it in half.
It is said that the name comes from the Shinto ritual “Takesao” performed at Izorogu, a separate shrine of Ise-jingu Shrine.
There are 2 types: white and wormwood. Please enjoy the harmony between mochi, which has just the right amount of chewiness in its soft texture, and bean paste, which is moderately sweet.
