Ise Lobster
Premium lobster nurtured by the tides of the ria coastline
About Ise Lobster
The Ise Lobster (伊勢海老, Ise ebi) harvested in Miyazaki thrives in the rough waves of the Hyuganada Sea, enriched by the warm Kuroshio Current. As a result, its meat is firm, generously sized, tender, and delightfully sweet. With its characteristically long antennae and curved body, the lobster is considered a symbol of longevity, making it a cherished delicacy for celebratory occasions.
Ise Lobster can be enjoyed in various preparations, such as sashimi, steaming, or grilling, allowing its rich flavor to shine. In Miyazaki Prefecture, the lobster season is celebrated from September to November with the campaign "Miyazaki Ise Ebi Itadaki Month!" During this period, local restaurants and accommodations offer special dishes featuring Miyazaki's Ise Lobster, and events are held primarily in Nobeoka City and Nichinan City.
Highlights include the "East Kyushu Ise Lobster Highway Festival," co-hosted by Saiki City in Oita Prefecture and Nobeoka City, and the "Nichinan Coast Ise Lobster Festival" in Nichinan City. These events feature activities like stamp rallies, photo contests, and surveys that reward participants with exciting prizes such as Ise lobster and local specialties—making it a truly enticing celebration of this regional treasure.
