About Izumo Zenzai
Izumo Zenzai (出雲ぜんざい) is said to originate from Izumo, a sacred place where, according to legend, all the gods of Japan gather during the 10th month of the lunar calendar, known as the "Month of the Gods." It is believed that the name "Zenzai" evolved from "Kamiari Mochi," a special offering served during ancient Kamiari festivals at Izumo Taisha, one of Japan's most famous shrines, and eventually spread to cities like Kyoto and Edo.
What makes Izumo Zenzai unique is its use of large, tender adzuki beans seasoned with a touch of salt, creating a harmonious balance between sweetness and saltiness. Another distinctive feature is its generous amount of warm, comforting syrupy broth.
