Kankoromochi introduction

Kankoromochi is a specialty of the Goto Islands in Nagasaki prefecture. “Kankoro” is a dialect of the Goto region where sweet potatoes are thinly sliced and sun-dried. Kankoro mochi is made by mixing mochi with kankoro. In the old days, glutinous rice was very expensive, and it was made with the wisdom of our ancestors, saying that if you mix kankoro, the amount will increase and everyone can eat a lot. It is still made at home as a preserved food in the winter season in the Goto region.
