In the Bunsei era (1818-1829), which is the end of the Edo period, it was discovered as an accidental seedling in Soi adjacent to Jogasaki, Akae-mura, in the former Miyazaki-gun (now Miyazaki City). The pulp has a strong acidity, and it is an ideal citrus that tastes just right when eaten with the sweet white cotton part and has high nutrients.
