Synonymous with Yanagawa is the atmosphere and scenery downstream and steamed eel. In Fukuoka, it is so famous that “speaking of eels is Yanagawa.” Unaju and unadon are common eel dishes, but steaming is commonplace in Yanagawa. Steamed eel uses “local Kyushu sweet soy sauce,” which is familiar to the people of Yanagawa, and is characterized by sprinkling sauce on rice and steaming it plump to make it easier to eat “eel” with high nutritional value.
