Nagasaki Champon
A local favorite born in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Champon
About Nagasaki Champon
Nagasaki Champon (長崎ちゃんぽん) is a beloved dish originating in Nagasaki City, celebrated as a representative local cuisine since the Meiji era.
This hearty noodle dish is packed with ingredients like shrimp, squid, other seafood, meat, vegetables, and kamaboko (fish cake), all served with thick, firm, and specially crafted noodles.
Nagasaki Champon was created in the mid-Meiji period by the owner of a Chinese restaurant who came from Fujian Province. Initially, it was designed as a nutritious meal for Chinese students studying in Japan, but its incredible flavor quickly won over the hearts of the locals in Nagasaki.
