Kattoppo
Grilled Boxfish with Miso
About Kattoppo
Kattoppo (かっとっぽ) is a traditional dish from Kamigoto, featuring grilled boxfish seasoned with miso. This local delicacy is prepared by hollowing out the boxfish after cleaning its insides, and then mixing its flesh with miso, sake, chopped green onions, and other ingredients. The mixture is stuffed back into the fish, which is then wrapped in aluminum foil and grilled to perfection. Kattoppo pairs perfectly with rice and also makes a delightful accompaniment to drinks, earning a cherished place in the hearts of the local people.
