Kujira Mochi introduction

Kujira Mochi (くじら餅, Kujira mochi) is a traditional sweet that has been enjoyed for generations in the Shinjō and Mogami regions of Yamagata Prefecture. Despite its name, it does not contain any whale meat. The name is thought to come from the phrase "久持良餅" (Kujira mochi), meaning "a mochi that lasts well," referring to its excellent preservability. It is typically eaten as is or lightly grilled for added flavor.
