About Yawatahama Champon

Yawatahama Champon is a local gourmet dish that has long been loved locally as the soul food of Yawatahama City, Ehime Prefecture. It is a port town in Yawatahama where maritime trade with Kyushu and Kansai flourished, and food culture introduced from China was fused with local ingredients and was born. First served in Showa 23, this champon has characteristics unique to the fish town of Yawatahama.

Yawatahama Champon soup is characterized by a light, golden broth made with chicken bones, bonito, and kombu, which is different from the rich pork bone soup of Nagasaki Champon. As ingredients, plenty of vegetables, pork, and kneaded products such as kamaboko and jakoten, which are specialties of Yawatahama, are used, so you can enjoy the flavors unique to the fish town. Thick Chinese noodles also go well with soup, making this cup satisfying to eat.

In Yawatahama city, you can enjoy Yawatahama Champon at around 50 restaurants, cafes, etc., and each store has added a unique arrangement. They also offer a wide variety of menus, such as the “Champon Teishoku” and “Special Champon.”
