Taiko Shusse Mochi
A traditional Ise confection for celebrations, cherished throughout history

About Taiko Shusse Mochi
Taiko Shusse Mochi (太閤出世餅) is a classic Japanese sweet featuring smooth, subtly sweet red bean paste carefully wrapped in freshly pounded mochi and gently hand-toasted for a golden finish.
This delicacy was famously enjoyed by the great warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, earning it the nickname “Taiko Mochi” or “Shusse Mochi” (symbolizing success and fortune) among the people of Ise, eventually becoming known as Taiko Shusse Mochi.
Much like its auspicious history, this celebratory treat is still popularly used for special moments such as a child’s hundred-day milestone or Shichi-Go-San, a traditional rite of passage.
