Gohei Mochi
A beloved traditional dish from the Gifu and Kiso regions
About Gohei Mochi
Gohei Mochi (五平もち, Gohei mochi) is a cherished traditional dish originating from the mountainous areas of Gifu and Nagano Prefectures.
Made from slightly pounded non-glutinous rice, the grains are left intact to create a unique texture. The rice is shaped into patties and coated with flavorful sauces based on miso or soy sauce. Variations include miso sauce, soy-based sauce, or blends with ingredients like walnuts or perilla seeds. You can also enjoy different shapes such as sandal-like or round, depending on the region.
