Hodatsushimizu Omurice
The Town of Omurice – Hodatsushimizu
About Hodatsushimizu Omurice
Hodatsushimizu Omurice (宝達志水オムライス) is a new local specialty inspired by the birthplace of Shigeo Kitahashi, a French cuisine chef and the founder of "Hokkyokusei," an iconic restaurant in Osaka where omurice was first created during the Taisho era. Shigeo Kitahashi, originally from Hodatsushimizu Town in Ishikawa Prefecture, opened a Western-style restaurant in Osaka called "Panya's Dining Hall" (now "Hokkyokusei"). He invented omurice by combining an omelet with tomato ketchup-flavored rice, creating a dish beloved by a regular customer.
Since 2011, Hodatsushimizu Town has embraced its legacy as the "Home of Omurice" by launching the "Omurice Village" project. Local restaurants offer their own creative versions of omurice, and the town hosts fun omurice-themed events, fostering a sense of community and pride in this delicious local delicacy.
