Sobameshi
A local comfort food born in Kobe, Hyogo
About Sobameshi
Sobameshi (そばめし) is a unique dish originating from Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. It combines finely chopped stir-fried noodles (yakisoba) and rice, cooked together on a hot griddle.
The story goes that this dish was born when a customer at a Kobe okonomiyaki restaurant brought in a cold bento box and asked the chef to stir-fry the rice with noodles. This humble beginning has since made Sobameshi a beloved B-grade gourmet favorite in the region.
