About Akashiyaki

Akashiyaki (明石焼き) is a beloved traditional dish from Akashi City in Hyogo Prefecture. This light snack is made from eggs, “ukiko” (a type of starch flour), wheat flour, and octopus. Locally, it’s known as “tamago yaki” (egg grill).

While it may look similar to takoyaki, Akashiyaki has a distinct difference—it’s made with an egg-based batter and is enjoyed by dipping it in a flavorful dashi broth. Its soft, fluffy texture and mild, comforting flavor provide a truly soothing culinary experience.
