About Tochiotome

Tochigi Prefecture is recognized as Japan's "Strawberry Kingdom," maintaining the highest strawberry production for over half a century. Among its many varieties, Tochiotome reigns as the most-produced strawberry type nationwide. This celebrated brand strawberry from Tochigi gains nationwide popularity for its exquisite balance of sweetness and tartness. Its superior quality stems from fertile soil in the Kanto Plain, pristine water sources, long hours of winter sunlight, and sharp temperature contrasts between seasons and between day and night.

Registered as a variety in 1996, Tochiotome was born from the crossbreeding of "Kurume No. 49" and "Tochi no Mine." Known for its vibrant red color, perfectly uniform shape, and large size, this strawberry bursts with sweet, juicy flavor—truly the quintessential strawberry.

Tochiotome strawberries are packed with vitamin C, boasting roughly twice the content found in oranges or grapefruits. They are also rich in folic acid, a type of vitamin B, and anthocyanin, a polyphenol. These nutrients make Tochiotome a wonderful choice for those seeking beauty and health benefits.

Within Tochigi Prefecture, you'll find an array of desserts featuring Tochiotome strawberries. From shortcakes and parfaits to tarts, the sweet and tangy profiles of these strawberries charm countless dessert lovers. Local cafes and patisseries, in particular, offer exclusive menus with fresh Tochiotome strawberries, elevating the experience with the finest seasonal flavors.

Tochiotome desserts pair wonderfully with tea or champagne. The rich aroma of tea and the refreshing effervescence of champagne enhance the strawberries' sweet and tangy notes, creating a luxurious and delightful moment.

Since 2019, Tochigi has also launched the "Strawberry Kingdom Tochigi Certification." Why not challenge yourself and explore the wonders of this strawberry paradise?
