Zangi is a chicken dish that is popular in Hokkaido, which is pickled in ginger, soy sauce, and garlic sauce, and then deep-fried. However, when compared to karaage, Zangi is more seasoned and goes well with beer, making it an irresistible dish for chicken lovers. Zangi in Kushiro, which is said to be the birthplace of Zangi in Hokkaido, is not flavored, but is eaten with a special sauce (zantare).
