About Zangi (Hokkaido-style fried chicken)
Zangi is a Hokkaido favorite: chicken marinated in a sauce of ginger, soy sauce, and garlic, then deep-fried. Compared with karaage, it is more boldly seasoned and pairs especially well with beer. In Kushiro, which is considered the birthplace of Hokkaido zangi, the chicken is not pre-seasoned; it is served with a special sauce called zantare.
