Uiro
An old-fashioned, simple taste: Aoshima Uiro
About Uiro
Uiro (ういろう, Uiro) has its origins in the late 19th century, around 1877 (Meiji 10). It is said to have been first sold by Sato Suzuki (1849–1922), a local innkeeper in Orinosako, to visitors making pilgrimages to Aoshima.
Made primarily from non-glutinous rice (uruchi rice), white sugar, and brown sugar, this steamed sweet is a beloved traditional treat from Miyazaki, a region known as Hyuga no Kuni in history. Its simple and natural preparation, free from any additives, reflects its timeless appeal. The product is meticulously vacuum-heated and sterilized, ensuring quality and safety.
Today, this nostalgic confection has become one of Miyazaki's most iconic and beloved regional specialties.
