Atsumi Karinto
A traditional sweet from Kanoura, Nikaho City, Akita Prefecture
About Atsumi Karinto
Atsumi Karinto (あつみのかりんとう) is quite different from the typical image of karinto. These bite-sized squares have a rich amber color, are coated with plenty of sesame seeds, and are easy to enjoy. They have a thin, crispy texture, the delightful aroma of sesame, and just the right amount of sweetness that keeps you coming back for more. Production halts during the summer months to prevent stickiness caused by the heat. It's a rare treat that can be hard to find, and even at Atsumi in Nikaho City—where it's made—purchases may be limited due to its immense popularity.
