About Gokase yamame

Yamame no Sato Fish Farm in Gokase Town is located at an altitude of 700m, deep in the Kyushu Seiryō Mountains at the headwaters of the Gokase River. It began in 1963 when we worked on artificial hatching of natural yamame that inhabits the headwaters of the Gokase River. The following year, in Showa 39, we succeeded in artificial hatching, and in 42, we succeeded in collecting eggs from parent fish of artificial incubation farming, and established circular aquaculture. At Yamame no Sato, we have secured mineral-rich spring water that springs under the limestone, tuff, and paleozoic layers of Aso and the headwaters of the Gokase River, which is certified as the most beautiful river in Japan, as a water source. It is completely medication-free, which can only be done because excellent location conditions are in place, and it can be grown in a state very close to nature without administration of antibiotics.
