Genji roll introduction

Genji-maki is a Japanese confectionary made by wrapping red bean paste wrapped in a 1.5 cm thick flour dough, and it is said that it was invented by a Tsuwano confectionary at the end of the Edo period and named after the song “The Tale of Genji.” Also, it is said that it originated from confectionaries presented to Uenosuke by the chief retainer of the Tsuwano Domain during the Genroku period. Currently, it is a representative souvenir of Tsuwano, using local adzuki beans and Fukuoka wheat, and is loved by a wide range of people, from locals to tourists, as a souvenir. There are over 10 Genji-maki manufacturers in Tsuwano, and they compete for individual characteristics, such as matcha flavor and deep-fried Genji-maki.
