Yaseuma
A traditional sweet treat from Oita Prefecture
Yaseuma introduction
Yaseuma (やせうま) is a local specialty of Oita Prefecture made by boiling flattened wheat flour dough and coating it with a mixture of roasted soybean flour (kinako) and sugar. The dough is the same as that used for "dango-jiru" (a local noodle soup). Stretching the dough requires a certain technique, with skilled hands being able to roll it out thin and long. Instead of using a knife, the dough is torn by hand and eaten warm or chilled. Often enjoyed as a sweet snack, it’s a beloved homemade treat in many households.
