Iki sea urchin bowl introduction

Iki Island, a remote island in Nagasaki prefecture, is attractive for its unspoiled nature, but sea urchins are particularly popular, and many people from outside the prefecture visit in search of fresh sea urchins. Most of the island is surrounded by rocky areas, and its rich nature nurtures rich and delicious sea urchins. On Iki Island, three main types of sea urchins are landed: classic purple sea urchins, gazeuni, and red sea urchins called phantom sea urchins. Sea urchin fishing season is from mid-April to mid-October, and about 300 ama divers and amas on the island catch sea urchins. Mid-April to 6/20 is the season for sea urchins. It is said that the season for red sea urchins is from July to October.
