Mihara Octopus Rice
A local specialty of Mihara, "Octopus Rice"
About Mihara Octopus Rice
Mihara City in Hiroshima Prefecture is known for its abundance of islands, creating the perfect environment with strong tides and rocky areas where octopuses thrive. This region is famous for producing high-quality octopus.
Octopus rice, or "Tako-meshi" (たこめし), originally started as a hearty meal for fishermen, who prepared this flavorful rice dish using freshly caught octopus right on their boats. Now, it has become one of Mihara’s iconic specialties.
The dish is loved for its firm, slightly chewy texture and delicious taste.
