Okayama prefecture has one of the highest octopus catches in the whole country, and octopus grown in the sea near Shimotsui in Kurashiki City, where the tide is particularly fast even in the Seto Inland Sea, is said to have a unique texture and is firm and tasty. Kurashiki City's specialty, “takomeshi,” is a dish made by adding rice soaked in water in a pot, broth, soy sauce, sake, and thinly sliced octopus to make cooked rice, and it is a dish that shines with the goodness of the ingredients that spread rich in the aroma of the sea. It is said that it originated when fishermen ate octopus caught on a boat. Dishes using fresh octopus can be eaten all over Kurashiki city, and now they are prepared and popular at restaurants, local events, etc., mainly in Kojima, Kurashiki City, and at home.
