Misaki Gazami (Blue Swimming Crab)
Delicately refined flavors of the prized Misaki Gazami
About Misaki Gazami (Blue Swimming Crab)
Misaki Gazami (岬ガザミ), or large blue swimming crabs, are a specialty of the Kakaji area in Bungotakada City, known as a prime fishing location for these crabs.
The taste and meat content vary depending on the season and the crab's gender. Male crabs are at their best from August to October, while female crabs are most delicious from November to December, when their shells are full of roe. Especially in winter, female crabs are a true delicacy, offering not only flavorful meat but also rich crab miso and succulent roe to enjoy together.
