Dago Jiru
Nutritious, filling, and easy to prepare
About Dago Jiru
Dago Jiru (だご汁, Dago jiru) is a hearty soup dish originating from Kumamoto Prefecture. The term "dago" means "dumpling" in the Kumamoto dialect.
This comforting soup is made by kneading wheat flour dough into flat dumplings and simmering them with seasonal vegetables such as cabbage, daikon radish, and carrots, along with meat. The broth is seasoned with miso or soy sauce for a rich and satisfying flavor. Depending on the region, the ingredients and seasoning may vary, offering a delightful variety of tastes.
Easy to make, highly nutritious, and wonderfully filling, Dago Jiru has been a beloved meal traditionally enjoyed by farmers during breaks from their work.
