The variety of these traditional Japanese sweets has also recently been enriched with the addition of those with much more Western-style flavors. From around Showa 59 (1984), products containing cream cheese, chocolate, etc. instead of red bean paste appeared one after another, and in recent years, matcha, bamboo charcoal, sake kneaded into baked dough, and deep-fried maple leaves have also appeared , I'm delighted. The light, simple taste with reduced sweetness has gained popularity as a snack that is easily accepted not only by Japanese people but also by foreigners.
