Yokosuka Navy Curry
A charmingly simple taste! A traditional curry!

About Yokosuka Navy Curry
Yokosuka Navy Curry (よこすか海軍カレー, Yokosuka kaigun kare) originated in the Meiji Era as a menu item designed to prevent beriberi among navy soldiers.
This dish offered a balanced intake of meat and vegetables, with the addition of wheat flour in the curry roux to help combat the deficiency. Made with simple ingredients like beef fat, flour, and curry powder, its homemade feel is what gives it its comforting and simple flavor.
Today, you can find ready-to-eat versions of this curry in supermarkets. Interestingly, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force still has a tradition of eating curry every Friday!
