Momi Wakame
Momi Wakame: A Natural Delicacy from Fukui

About Momi Wakame
Momi Wakame (もみわかめ) is a traditional natural food made from the finest fresh wakame seaweed harvested from the waters near Tojinbo in Fukui Prefecture. The seaweed is sun-dried and then carefully hand-crushed to create this product.
In the early Showa era, it was locally known as "Kona Wakame" (粉わかめ) and was consumed only in the region. Later, it was commercialized and introduced under the name "Momi Wakame." It has since been recognized as an excellent local souvenir of Fukui Prefecture and is highly recommended as a specialty product of the region.
How to enjoy it? Sprinkle it over freshly steamed rice or use it as a flavorful filling for rice balls to enjoy the aromatic essence of the sea. Nowadays, Momi Wakame is also popular as a topping for pasta, stir-fried noodles, or even raw egg over rice for a delicious twist!
