Sawa Mochi
A traditional sweet originating from the Ise-Shima region
About Sawa Mochi
Sawa Mochi (さわ餅, Sawa mochi) is a specialty confection from the Ise-Shima region in Mie Prefecture.
This simple yet delightful treat is made by cutting thinly rolled mochi into square (almost perfectly square) shapes, placing smooth red bean paste (koshian) on top, and folding it in half.
The name is said to be inspired by the ritual "Takesao" conducted at Izawa Shrine, a secondary shrine of Ise Jingu.
Sawa Mochi comes in two varieties: white mochi and yomogi (mugwort) mochi. Enjoy the soft yet pleasantly chewy texture of the mochi, perfectly paired with the subtly sweet filling for a harmonious flavor experience.
