Muuchii introduction

Muuchii (ムーチー, also known as "Oni Mochi") is a traditional event and food celebrated on December 8th of the lunar calendar in Okinawa. This day is dedicated to warding off evil spirits and praying for children's health. Muuchii is a type of rice cake made by kneading rice flour and flavoring it with ingredients such as white sugar, brown sugar, or purple yam. The mixture is then wrapped in fragrant shell ginger leaves and steamed to perfection. The name "Oni Mochi" (Demon Mochi) originates from an Okinawan folktale in which Muuchii was used to defeat a demon. This beloved winter treat is deeply tied to Okinawan culture and tradition.
