Jumbo mochi (janbo-mochi) introduction

“Janbomochi” is a dish that has been popular since ancient times in Kagoshima Prefecture, with two dango skewers made from freshly cooked mochi and glutinous rice flour and topped with thick sugar soy sauce sauce. “Janbomochi” is written as “both stick mochi”. The history of “janbomochi” is very old. During the period of the Northern and Southern Courts, Imperial Prince Kaneyoshi, a child of Emperor Godaigo, was staying at Taniyama Castle in Kagoshima City, Takanobu TANIYAMA, who was the lord of Taniyama Castle, makes mochi to comfort the Imperial Prince. There is an anecdote that when I put two skewers on it, stewed in miso and brown sugar, I heard the name of the dish, and it starts with “jumbo”. In the Edo period, Taniyama began to be presented to the Shimazu clan, the lord of Satsuma Domain, and from there it is said that “Jumbo mochi” spread in the Iso region.
