The local gourmet “Kumagaya Horudon” from Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture, is an exquisite yaki-udon that combines chewy udon made from locally grown wheat with fresh pork hormones. Kumagaya City is one of the nation's leading wheat producing areas, and is characterized by udon with a chewy texture. Meanwhile, pork hormones are sent directly from slaughter facilities in the city, and their fresh, odorless flavor stands out. The birth of this dish dates back to the “Kumagaya B-grade Gourmet Championship” held in 2010. It was held for the purpose of creating new specialties that make use of local restaurants and ingredients, and “Kumagaya Hordon” received the Grand Prix from many applications. After that, it was established as a B-grade gourmet in Kumagaya City, and now it is offered at many stores. The seasoning adds a spicy accent to the soy sauce base, and is finished so that it is exquisitely intertwined with the umami of hormones. It also uses plenty of local vegetables such as cabbage and green onions, and has an excellent nutritional balance.
