Jumangoku Manju
“Delicious, simply too delicious” – Saitama’s famous sweet, Jumangoku Manju

About Jumangoku Manju
Jumangoku Manju (十万石まんじゅう, Jumangoku manju) is the signature confectionery of Fukusaya, a Japanese sweets shop established in 1952 in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture. Its name traces back to the Edo period when Gyoda flourished as part of the Oshi Domain, known for its vast wealth of ten thousand koku (an old Japanese unit of rice yield).
This traditional yokan-style steamed bun is crafted with great care, using a delicate outer layer made from domestically-sourced tsukune yam blended with Niigata-grown Koshihikari rice flour. Inside, it holds a smooth and refined sweet red bean paste made from premium azuki beans from Tokachi, Hokkaido. Its elegant sweetness and melt-in-your-mouth texture have been cherished by many since its release.
The catchphrase “Delicious, simply too delicious” became famous thanks to art printmaker Shiko Munakata, who praised the unparalleled flavor of Jumangoku Manju. It continues to resonate with fans through popular TV commercials and advertisements. With its mildly sweet and sophisticated taste, Jumangoku Manju pairs perfectly with Japanese teas, especially sencha or hojicha, complementing the flavors beautifully.
You can find this delightful confection at Fukusaya’s stores across Saitama or through its online shop, making it a perfect gift or treat for yourself. Be sure to try this iconic delicacy and discover for yourself why it's described as “delicious, simply too delicious.”
