Kurikinton
About Kurikinton
Kurikinton is a local confectionary with ties to Gifu's Mino region. It is a simple, heartwarming chestnut confectionary made by combining chestnuts and a little sugar and finishing with a tea towel.
The eastern part of Gifu prefecture, where the Enagawa Kamiya is located, is said to be the birthplace of kurikinton. Before I knew it, the local confectionary that was handed down to families in mountain villages made from natural mountain chestnuts became famous confectionary all over the country.
The most delicious kurikinton is that flavor that my grandmother cooked in a hand pot.
I picked up a lot of chestnuts in the back mountains and spent time preparing that warm flavor while imagining the smiles of the children.
“Grandma's Kurikinton,” carefully cooked with freshly picked ingredients, is the ultimate kurikinton we aim for.
