Chestnut Kinton
The nostalgic flavor of grandma’s handmade treat
About Chestnut Kinton
Chestnut Kinton (栗きんとん, Kuri kinton) is a traditional sweet closely tied to the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture. Made by gently simmering chestnuts with a touch of sugar and shaping them into delicate bundles using a cloth, this humble confection offers a heartwarming, natural sweetness.
Eastern Gifu, home to Ena Kawakamiya, is said to be the birthplace of Chestnut Kinton. This beloved sweet, crafted from wild mountain chestnuts and passed down in rural households, has grown into a nationally recognized delicacy over time.
The most delicious Chestnut Kinton is reminiscent of the treat grandma would make in a small pot on the stove. Picking chestnuts by hand from the backyard forest, she would prepare them slowly, envisioning the delighted smiles of children. That warm, wholesome flavor is what we aim to recreate.
Carefully prepared using freshly harvested ingredients, “Grandma’s Chestnut Kinton” is the ultimate version of this cherished confection.
