Hana Rakkyo
About Hana Rakkyo
“Flower shallots” from Mirihama in Mikuni, Fukui Prefecture are cultivated in sand dunes stretching along the coast of the Sea of Japan.
Since Mirihama's sand is relatively fine and contains a lot of clay, it is possible to produce crisp flower shallots.
Small, jewel-like shallots. Hanakkyo, a specialty of Mikuni, can be grown over a period of 2 years in the vast sand dunes facing the Sea of Japan.
From late October to early November, pretty, pale red shallots bloom on Mirihama Hill.
Small, jewel-like shallots are also appreciated as souvenirs.
