About Simmered gonguri

Many fish such as tuna and skipjack tuna are landed at the port of Nichinan, Miyazaki prefecture, where fishing is thriving. “Gonguri” is the stomach of tuna, and “gonguri-ni” is a home-cooked dish made by simmering tuna stomachs in a sweet and spicy manner. Gonguri-ni, which is simmered sweet and spicy using sugar, soy sauce, and mirin, is popular as a side dish for sake and as a companion to rice. Since it can only be made with fresh tuna, it is a local dish unique to this area where tuna fishing is popular. It is a dish that you can easily eat at cafeterias and restaurants.
