About Shijimi Miso Soup
Shijimi Miso Soup (しじみ汁, Shijimi jiru) is a classic dish made with shijimi clams, one of the famous "Seven Delicacies of Lake Shinji." This nourishing soup is a staple in local inns and homes throughout Shimane.
Lake Shinji is a brackish water lake, home to the Yamato shijimi clam, which is known for its outstanding quality. With an annual harvest of around 6,100 tons, these clams are famous nationwide. Besides shijimi, the other delicacies of Lake Shinji include sea bass, morogebi shrimp, eel, amasagi smelt, shirauo whitebait, and carp.
