About Butter Mochi
Butter Mochi (バター餅, Bata Mochi) is a sweet treat made by pounding glutinous rice that has been soaked in water overnight, and then mixing it with ingredients like butter, flour, egg yolks, and sugar.
The addition of butter prevents it from hardening over time, giving the mochi its signature soft and chewy texture. This delightful dessert is enjoyed as it is, without the need for grilling. In October 2011, it was recognized as a specialty product of Kitaakita City, Akita Prefecture, celebrated for its uniquely smooth texture and rich flavor.
