Sata Andagi (サーターアンダーギー) is a beloved traditional fried confection from Okinawa.
In Okinawan dialect, "sata" means sugar, "anda" means oil, and "agi" means fried, with the extended "andagi" translating to "deep-fried in oil." Made from a simple batter of flour, eggs, and sugar, these treats are slowly fried at low temperatures to create a crispy, golden crust, while the inside remains moist and delightfully chewy.
Considered a symbol of good fortune, the cracks that form on the surface during frying are said to resemble a smiling face or blooming flowers. Sata Andagi is one of the most popular and iconic snacks in Okinawa, loved for its unique texture and sweet, comforting flavor.
