Mukago Rice
A dish made with care using the gifts of nature
About Mukago Rice
Mukago Rice (むかごご飯) is a type of seasoned rice cooked with "mukago," which are tiny bulbils that grow at the base of the leaves of plants like Japanese yam (Nagaimo) and wild yam (Jinenjo). Ibaraki Prefecture is especially famous for producing Nagaimo.
Apart from being used in rice dishes, mukago can also be enjoyed boiled with a pinch of salt, roasted, or lightly fried for a simple and delicious snack.
