Hashiriimochi was founded in the first year of the Meiwa era (1764), around the time of Tokugawa Ieharu, the tenth shogun, and mochi mixed with famous water from Hashirii and rice from Omi made up for the hunger of travelers and became an important source of energy, and tea made from running well water moisturized the dry throat and healed the fatigue of traveling. The unique shape of this running imochi represents the flow of abundant water and the outpouring of water droplets, and has been known all over the country as a major specialty of the Tokaido since ancient times.
