Chiba Peanuts
A healthy snack rich in zinc! Chiba's famous specialty: peanuts!
About Chiba Peanuts
Chiba Peanuts (千葉落花生, Chiba rakkasei) are a proud specialty of Chiba Prefecture, particularly produced in Sanmu City. The area's soil, rich in volcanic ash, was considered unsuitable for other crops but proved ideal for peanuts due to their hardiness, resistance to drought, and low maintenance requirements.
While imported peanuts from China have become more common in recent years, peanuts remain a beloved "soul food" of Chiba. Fun fact: November 11 is "Peanut Day" in Japan, inspired by the two peanuts inside their shell resembling the double ones in the date.
