About Chiba Peanuts (Peanuts from Chiba Prefecture)
Peanut production thrives in Sanmu City, Chiba Prefecture. The reason, it is said, is that the area has a lot of volcanic ash soil that is unsuitable for growing many other crops. Peanuts are well suited to the region because they tolerate poor soil and drought, and are relatively easy to grow. Although many peanuts sold today come from China, peanuts remain a Chiba soul food. Since two kernels are often found in one shell, November 11 is known as “Peanut Day.”
