Navy Gourmet
Kure, the city of the Maritime Self-Defense ForceNavy Gourmet introduction
Kure in Hiroshima prefecture faces the Seto Inland Sea and is also known as a place related to the Navy. The Kure Chinjufu was opened in 1889 (1889), and urban infrastructure such as a naval factory, naval hospital, and naval water supply was developed, and it flourished as the number one military port in the East and the number one naval arsenal in Japan. “Kure Navy Gourmet” is a dish related to Kure City prepared based on dishes served on ships built in the Kure Chinjufu or ships belonging to the Kure Chinjufu, and recipes handed down from the former Japanese Navy. A representative example of this is navy curry. Originally, in the Maritime Self-Defense Force, there was a custom of eating curry every Friday so as not to lose sense of the day of the week. It seems that curry was an important part of the SDF to signal the end of a weekday that is always eaten once a week.
