Shikishiki introduction

Shikishiki is one of the snacks usually eaten in Katsuragi Taima and Shinjo, and it is a snack that feels like a crepe. It is made by thinly spreading locally produced wheat and sugar grown using fallow rice fields, melted in eggs, and baked in a folding frying pan like a crepe. It means that when eggs were precious, they were dissolved in water without using eggs. Since wheat cultivation was popular in Nara prefecture, dishes and snacks using wheat such as Miwa somen noodles, hansatsu namamochi, and “shikishiki” have been eaten for a long time. It is eaten throughout the year, especially regardless of the time of year. There are various ways to eat it depending on the household, such as eating it with sweetness as it is, eating it with freshly chopped green onions and shavings, or eating it with bean paste.
