Iwakuni Lotus Root
Known for its sticky texture and satisfying crunch
About Iwakuni Lotus Root
Iwakuni Lotus Root (岩国れんこん, Iwakuni renkon) is a celebrated specialty of Iwakuni City, one of the leading lotus root-producing regions in Japan.
Iwakuni Lotus Root is characterized by its chewy, moist texture and tightly packed flesh that pulls into fine threads when cut. It is also cherished for its historical connection to the Kikkawa family crest from the Edo period, as its signature nine holes resemble the crest, delighting the local lord at the time.
This unique and flavorful lotus root is a key ingredient in many of Iwakuni’s local dishes, such as Taihei and Iwakuni Sushi.
